2016 A Place at the Table 54 x 54 Property of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, Berkeley CA

A Place at the Table-round table, sheltering trees, people, and cornucopia in the center.

A place at the table, with room for everyone and everything, sheltered by the branches of the trees of life. You know how trees help each other by sending messages and nutrients through their roots? I wanted that to represent community and its sacredness through the connected roots shaped into Celtic knots. In the center there are the nurturing baptismal waters of the creation and a cornucopia of the bounty of the earth, even with salmon for my dad! (Thanks for all those fishing trips, Dad!) The song “A Place at the Table”, lyrics by Shirley Erena Murray, got my creative juices flowing for this one:
“For everyone born, a place at the table,
for everyone born, clean water and bread,
a shelter, a space, a safe place for growing,
for everyone born, a star overhead.
And God will delight,
when we are creators of justice and joy.
Yes, God will delight,
when we are creators of justice,
justice and joy!”
